DigitalX, Blockchain startup, rolls out AirPocket money transfers

DigitalX Limited, a blockchain payment solutions company, has announced that the update to its AirPocket app allowing money transfers into certain countries in Latin America went live on Tuesday, 8 March in the U.S. on Android.

The company said that AirPocket is the first Blockchain-enhanced mobile payments. The launch marks a significant milestone for DigitalX with AirPocket now offering users in select countries the ability to make low-cost cross-border money transfers to their friends and family from the US. DigitalX said that the iOS version was released this past Friday.

In its official release, the company said that initially, both El Salvador, with over 1,000 payout locations, and its core market, Mexico with over 14,000 payout locations, are now able to use AirPocket for money transfers, with other countries in Latin America to come online shortly.

“This is the first step in our vision to provide low-cost financial services to the underbanked immigrants of the world. While there have been some delays in the launch, the AirPocket technology was not the limiting factor. In a marketplace that still relies heavily on legacy infrastructure, we are more encouraged than ever to provide bankgrade security and Blockchain technology”, CEO Leigh Travers commented. “The goal of AirPocket is financial inclusion. Through the use of Blockchain technology we are able to create your digital and financial identity, forming the basis for enhanced access to credit and other financial services for our users.”

DigitalX said that the App has undergone a full re-branding, including an updated logo, and revamped user interface which integrates Latino-focused messaging and aesthetics. These features aim at enhancing user experience.

“This is a significant milestone for DigitalX, and results from a lot of hard work from the DigitalX team in Australia and the US. However, while the launch marks a significant occasion, it is only the start of the process for DigitalX”, company acting chair, Toby Hicks added. “We will seek to continue to grow the availability of AirPocket money transfers, not only through Latin America, but in new markets around the world, while at the same time monitoring its use and learning as much from this launch as we can.”

The startup has been selected as a delegate by Australian government bodies for a number of upcoming international events to showcase Australia’s leading Financial Services and Technology companies.
